Walker’s Cay: Folklore, Fish Tales, Rebirth - Now Available!

$100.00

Walker’s Cay: Folklore, Fish Tales, Rebirth is a product of “the spirit” of Walker’s Cay. Born from the collective desire to recapture this unique lifeforce, the book affirms that this spirit graced the northern Bahamian island long before modern man found her.

For over eighty-five years, Walker’s Cay has been a legendary fishing resort known by anglers worldwide as a premier deep-sea fishing destination. The rebirth of Walker’s Cay, after a seventeen-year closure, is underway to welcome visitors who desire to fish, dive, and explore the beautiful reef surrounding this gateway to the northern Abacos.

This historic edition includes three richly illustrated sections:

  • Folklore: Chronicles the rich history of Walker’s Cay from the 1500s to the early 2000s, including a profile of the island’s namesake, Thomas Walker.
  • Fish Tales: An anthology of personal stories from captains, families, staff, fishermen, and guests, showcasing their adventures and love for the rock, Walker’s Cay.
  • Rebirth: A behind-the-scenes look at how Carl and Gigi Allen, together with the Allen Exploration team, are redeveloping the island to its former glory.

This masterpiece is a historical milestone, capturing the island’s legendary story, illuminated by a treasure trove of curated photography and the original artwork of Carey Chen.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Katie Allen McDougall is a historian and the daughter of Carl and Gigi Allen, owners of Walker’s Cay. Her passion for historical research began in elementary school and grew through college, culminating in a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Arkansas.

With the acquisition of Walker’s Cay, Katie became fascinated with the island’s storied past. Her resulting essay on WalkersCay.com and social media gained viral visibility.

As an up-and-coming leader at Allen Exploration, Katie was tapped to oversee the company’s publishing initiatives. Walker’s Cay: Folklore, Fish Tales, Rebirth is the first publication brought to market under her direction.

The native Texan-turned-Utahn counts her two daughters, Gigi and Vivianne, as her greatest accomplishments. Along with her husband Collin, she has caught the spirit of Walker’s. Together they serve in its rebirth.
